The IBEW Local 104 Golf Outing was another beautiful day and sellout at the Crosswinds Country Club in Plymouth, MA. Every year, our outing raises money for various charities to help people with autism, people afflicted with cancer, veterans, training canines for victims with PTSD, as well as scholarships and members’ families who needed help after their passing. These are just a few of the charities from previous years. This year was different on how we chose a charity. During the outing, we made an announcement and asked the players to submit a charity that was close to their heart. We drew two of those nominated charities out of a hat to split the proceeds between them. Eighteen wonderful charities were submitted and two lucky charities were chosen, Paces for Faces and The Jimmy Fund. Both are close to all our hearts. The Paces for Faces organization helps fund medical treatment and research for children born with facial defects. This charity nomination was submitted by our own Elise Joyce whose nephew, Gavin, (son of her brother and 103 member Paul Ward) was born with a craniofacial condition. With multiple surgeries, Gavin’s face is that of a happy, handsome and confident young boy. I am proud to be part of an organization that helps others, especially to make someone smile. The Jimmy Fund is a charity that Local 104 has contributed to for many years through supporting Mickey Rooney’s biking of the Pan Mass Challenge. This charity provides children’s cancer research and treatment through the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The winners of our golf outing were the representatives from The Massachusetts Chapter of the Labor Assistance Professionals. They are another group whose sole purpose is to help union members with personal, mental and substance dependencies. People helping people. Forget the golf, being with people who care about others makes for a great day!
Thank you all that attended and contributed to make this day a great success, and a special thank you to our volunteers!
Hope to see you next year for another wonderful day!
